Editing an Existing Puzzle

One of the main attractions of IPDb is that we work together to make the database as complete, as can be. We combine our knowledge about each of the puzzles, thus making it, larger than each of us.

We achieve this by allowing everybody to edit all records but with some modifications, to avoid complete chaos.

Editing an existing puzzle record

  • Select the puzzle you wish to edit
  • Click/tap the pencil icon at the top of the puzzle detail screen to take you to the edit mode.

The edit screen will typically look something like this:

Pre-existing completed fields
You will notice that some fields are greyed out and cannot be edited. Fields are greyed out if they already have an existing value. These fields can only be edited by the original Submitter of the puzzle, and the process will be explained below.

Empty/white fields

Other fields are empty and can be edited. This makes it easier for everybody to add information that wasn't known by the original Submitter or additional information if you have more to add. This is where you can add your knowledge directly.

Images

For images, the rule is that:

  • everybody can add images
  • but only the original Submitter can delete and rearrange images.

General editing notes

Original Submitter

If you are the original Submitter, there will be no disabled fields, you can edit everything.

Editing someone else's record

As per above, you can add any new information to blank/white fields and add images, tags and categories.  You cannot, however, change any of the greyed-out fields.

When you add information to a puzzle originally submitted by somebody else, this person will get a message notifying them about what details have been added to their record.  These notifications can be found in the original Submitter's inbox (settings page > bell icon > notification inbox).

The original Submitter will then be able to edit the puzzle at that point and may discard some of your input. However, we encourage you to cooperate, to enhance the record, together by using the message system inside IPDb. We hope you can resolve all problems between yourselves, but if not, please submit a ticket in the knowledge base or write to [email protected]. However, this should be absolutely a last resort option.

Requesting corrections for incorrect data (greyed-out fields)
If you feel that any of the data in the greyed-out fields is incorrect, has a typo or could be improved, in any way, please follow these steps:

  1. In the detailed view of the puzzle, the original Submitter's name is listed towards the bottom; just to the right of their name, you will find a message box icon. Please click/tap this:
  2. A message pop-up screen will appear where you can write a message to the original Submitter and discuss with them (in a civil manner) what the right value might be.
  3. Press OK when done.
  4. The message you have sent can be found in your message outbox  (settings screen (cog icon) > Messages > sent message icon (right-most icon in message area))

Please allow ample time for a user to respond, as not everyone accesses IPDb daily.  However, if you do not get an answer, you can submit a ticket via the Help Centre (link at the top right of the Help Center screen) and the Admin Team will look into the issue and follow it up.

Please remember, that in all this, we are all working towards the same goal but personal taste does exist. So please discuss everything in a friendly manner, and try to find a good solution together.
