Messages are...
...the way we work together.

When so many people work together on one common goal - to create the biggest online database of jigsaw puzzles - it is important that we have a way to collaborate.
The built-in messaging system in IPDb is the most important tool for achieving this, so please allow us to give you a few guidelines about messages.
IPDb allows all users to write to all other users but, on top of that, messages, are also generated by the IPDb Team to keep you informed on what is going on.
Some examples:
- Other users may suggest changes to your puzzles or suggest to merge on of your puzzles with another puzzle.

REad more about how to handle change request in the article "How to improve existing records"
- IPDb will send you a message, every time somebody else, has added information to a puzzle that you, have submitted. This is to inform you that changes/additions have been made to your record and also allows you to check if the information that has been added is correct

- Users can send messages to each other, asking for help or discuss puzzle matters....

For the reasons above, and as a courtesy to your fellow IPDb users, we urge you to review your received messages regularly and to read them when you receive them or check IPDb.
To help you do that, we have a built-in feature in IPDb that shows a small red flashing message, on the settings (cog) icon in the toolbar at the bottom right, when we see that you have unread messages.

Ideally, you should click/tap the settings icon every time you see this red dot and read the messages in your inbox. Naturally, you can be focused on other things, and wait until you have a better time to read messages but, please do, make a point to check them regularly.
Once you have clicked/tapped on the settings icon, your Inbox is found in the Messages section of the settings window and will look like this:

Unread messages have a closed envelope icon, whereas read messages have an open envelope icon.
Click/tap on the message you wish to read.

If the message is too long to read in 4 lines, tap the full screen button to read the message using the whole of your screen.

If you wish to delete a message after reading it, click/tap the Trashcan icon.
If you want to reply to the message, click/tap the icon, with the envelope and the arrow.

Write your reply and hit OK.
For all messages in IPDb, please remember that all IPDb users and the Team are volunteers, so friendly and polite interactions are appreciated.
We are all here working together towards a common goal :-)
