QUICK STEP GUIDES (more information and pictures further down)
🔍 Adding Missing Information
If a record is incomplete, like a missing title, image, or piece count, here’s how to help:
- Click/tap the Edit button (Pencil icon) or the 4-square icon + Edit Puzzle in the record
- Fill in the blank fields with the information that you know
- Save your changes at the bottom
💌 The original submitter will be notified of your update
📌 Only add details you’re sure about; check your own puzzle, reliable sites, or ask the community!
✏️ Fixing Incorrect Details
Spotted an error? Maybe the brand is wrong, or a year was mis-typed.
- Go to the record details screen
- Click/tap on the incorrect information and write a message to the user as to what you believe the correct information should be
- Double-check your facts before sending
📬 The original submitter will be notified here, too
✅ Be factual. Be precise. Be kind. Everyone makes mistakes!
Adding missing information
Occasionally, you may notice that a record contains incorrect or outdated details. This could be something small, like a 'typo' in the title or more significantly, such as the wrong manufacturer or the missing piece count.
If you are confident that the information is incorrect and you have reliable sources to support your correction (such as your own puzzle, reputable websites, or trusted community knowledge), you can:
PC: Click/tap the edit button (Pencil Icon) for that record
Mobile devices: Click the 4 square icon, and select Edit Puzzle

This will take you to the Edit Puzzle screen.

In the edit form, make the necessary changes in the relevant fields. It’s helpful to keep your edits factual and precise. When you’re finished, click/tap save at the bottom of the form.
The original submitter (in this example, Danielle_West) will be notified that a change has been made to their puzzle listing.
Adding missing information to records ensures that puzzle records will be as comprehensive as possible, resulting in every puzzle being much easier to locate by other users.
However, please be mindful that you only add information that you are sure of and, perhaps, have double-checked with other sources (your own puzzle, Google searches, etc.)
Changing existing information
As you may have noticed in the edit form above, all fields with existing information were inactive/disabled/greyed out and hence cannot be edited in the same way as when you're adding new information.
When changing existing information, the procedure is a bit more complicated, as we believe it is fair to give the user who originally submitted the puzzle a chance to discuss the change.
And for this reason, the procedure will be for you to send a 'request' to change the information to the submitter of the puzzle, and let them either accept or deny your suggestion.
If they accept your change, it will be implemented by IPDb within 24 hours, automatically.
If they deny your suggestion, they will be asked to explain why your suggestion is not valid.
If they do not react to your suggestion, they may have stopped using IPDb; in which case, your suggestion will be implemented automatically by IPDb within one month.
It is polite to answer a change request as soon as possible.
You can follow the status of your suggestions in the new message box on the left, where they are listed by date (newest at the top) for 2 months.

Changing information in the detail view
You can suggest a change to any information in the puzzle detail view.
NOTE: Just like adding missing information, correcting existing data helps ensure IPDb remains an accurate and trustworthy resource for everyone in the puzzle community. As always, double-check your facts, and when in doubt, you can reach out to the community for input before suggesting the change.

On desktop computers, you hold down the CTRL key and click/tap on the information you would like to suggest a change to.
On mobile phones you do the same, by making a long press on the information you wish to suggest a change to.
There is no incorrect information in the above example, but if I wanted to suggest a change to the name of the puzzle to something else, I would need to move the mouse to where it says 'Milk Tooth'...

Notice that on desktop computers, the cursor will change to the edit cursor and a tooltip will tell you what to do to change the value.
When doing as instructed, you will see this dialog

The field you want to change is pre-filled, as you clicked the information with your mouse, and the existing value of the name is also entered into the title edit box, but you should change it to what you believe is the correct value.
Optionally, you can write a small message to the original submitter to explain why you suggest this change.
Once you hit OK, your job is done.

You can follow the progress in your request message box...

...but you will also receive a normal message in your inbox when the submitter accepts/denies your request, and if they accept, you will get another email once your suggestion is implemented.
The change form will look different, depending on the information, but the input method is the same as the normal edit form when adding new puzzles.
This is how you suggest a change to a brand...

...or the dimensions of the puzzle.

Try to avoid changing between 'cm' and 'inches', as the original submitter most likely has a reason to choose the measurement system they did when they originally added the puzzle.

Removing existing information
Naturally, you can remove information such as an artist by simply suggesting changing the name given to an empty string, and, thereby, removing that information.
But you can also remove wrongly given puzzle categories or features, in much the same way as when suggesting a change.
To remove a category, click/tap the emoji of the category while holding down the CTRL key (long press on mobile phones)

Once you do this, you will be allowed to give your reason before you click OK to submit your request.

Once the request to remove this category is saved, it is handled in the same way as other change requests.
Changing information in the edit form
The edit form has disabled all edit fields with existing information. To submit a change to such a value is very similar to the operation described above.
Move your mouse to the greyed-out edit field and click while holding down the CTRL key (long press for mobile devices).

Once you click, the same form for saving your request appears.
In the same way, if you wish to remove an 'already selected' category (or special feature), click the greyed-out category...

...and again, the procedure that follows is the same.
Changing the image type
Sometimes we come across images that have been incorrectly labelled in our opinion.
This especially happens when new image types are introduced.
To request a change to an image type, follow the same procedure as described above, clicking on the greyed-out image type that you believe to be the right one, while holding down the CTRL button. (Long press for mobile devices)...

...and supply an explanation for it.

Changing an image
Sometimes images are submitted to IPDb, which may need a little bit of attention. Perhaps the cropping or rotation was wrong, and the submitter forgot to change it.
If you come across such an image, open it in the full-screen viewer and look for this button (below);

If you click this button, you will enter the crop tool, where all the tools for making the image better are available.

In the above example, I aligned the box slightly and cropped away some of the background. When hitting the check mark/tick, I can explain my edit to the submitter.

And all that remains is to click/tap OK to submit the request for changing the image.
Responding to a change request
Somebody else may suggest a change to some of the information you gave when you submitted a puzzle.
You will see the request in the request message box.

Note: The red bubble on the request message box indicates that a request was made to you, and you should probably respond to them asap, to prevent other users from having to wait too long.
Note also the 2 buttons at the bottom, which allow you to accept or deny a request with a single click.
If you accept the change of value, it will be done automatically by IPDb within 24 hours, so there's no need for you to find the puzzle and start editing. It's a fact that we, at IPDb, discourage that.
If you deny, you are asked to provide an explanation why the change should not be implemented - try not to be too brief and please stay polite at all times.
If you do not reply to the requests within 28 days, the change will be implemented automatically.
