I can help feature...

The I can Help section is a number of tools that will make it easier to add value to IPDb. It is found in the burger menu bar in the upper left corner.

It will find puzzles or images that need your help to get better. If you have time and a desire to make IPDb better, please feel free to spend as much time as you like here.

Puzzle detail top button bar

This panel of function has been re organized a bit, to add a few new function, but more importantly, to take up less space on mobile devices.

On devices with large screen, it will look the same as always, but on smaller screen, functions are put into a popup menu to preserve screen space.

Barcode validation

It has been a struggle from the very beginning to scan barcodes and ensure that the right result end up in IPDb. In this version we have added a validator, that will warn you if the barcode does not follow international standard.

The validator will not prevent you to submit the puzzle, but it does give you a second chance to make sure that the barcode is the way you want it to be.

Fixing puzzle duplications

Every now and then it does happen that the same puzzles end up in IPDb twice, which is bad for everybody. Quite a few duplicates has been reported lately through our support system.

To make the process smoother and more safe for all of us, we have introduced a new tool to report duplicates inside the app.

If you suspect puzzle A is a duplicate to puzzle B, then go to Puzzle A, get a link to this puzzle saved on your clipboard, navigate to Puzzle B and hit the message button, go to the merge section and hit the paste button.

It sounds complicated, and all the details is found in the knowledge base article named "How to handle duplicates", but once you hit OK, all the rest of the process runs by itself.

Messages will be send to your inbox as your request are being handled, and you can view the current status in a new "request" section in your messages.

Request change to existing puzzle info

IPDb is a community project, and one of the huge advantages of that, is that we can help each other to get everything right. Since the beginning, users have been able to add information to puzzles submitted by others, thereby making the database more complete.

However, changing existing information has been a bit  more co mplicated, as it required you to write message to original submitter and asking her to change the information.

In this new version we have introduced a new tool to simplify this.

In this version you can move your cursor to the field that you beleive requires editing, then hold down the CTRL button and click the field. One touch screen the same effect is initiated by a long press on the field.

The message dialog will appear, in the change section and the field prefilled out as well as the existing value. All you have to do is to input the value you beleive to be correct and hit ok.

Optionally you can fill out the message field to explain why the change is better.

You can follow the change request in the new request section under messages, mentioned under "Fixing puzzle duplications".
