How to Change Language in IPDb

IPDb can be displayed in many different languages

IPDb was created in English, but you can change the display language if you wish to. This is accomplished by using the browser's automatic translation feature, which is a limitation. But in our experience, this works quite well with at least some of the 'bigger' languages such as French, Spanish, Italian, etc.

Please try it out and find out if this is a better solution for you.

Windows/Edge

When installing IPDb from the 'Microsoft App Store', which is the preferred method of installing the App, IPDb will be rendered by Edge, and therefore, Edge will be responsible for translating IPDb.

For this reason, the setup must be done in Edge, so the first step is to start the Edge browser.

Once started, go to Settings-> Languages from the 3-dot menu in the upper right corner. This may be referred to by a different name, depending on your language settings, but we hope you find it ok.

As an alternative, type in this URL in the address bar:

edge://settings/languages

Your screen should end up looking something like this:

The above screenshot is in Danish, which is the foreign language example that the author wishes IPDb to use.

Please note that 'Preferred Languages' contains both Danish and English. This is important, and you need to be certain that your screen contains both your language and English. Add languages with the 'Add Language' button.

In addition, Edge is set up to display itself in Danish. By clicking/tapping the 3 dots next to Danish, it will display this setting:

Note the small checkmark to the left of 'Show Microsoft Edge in this language'.

Lastly, we must set up Edge to offer translation of English to Danish. This is done using the 3-dot menu next to 'English', which should look like this:

Note the small checkmark/tick to the left of 'Offer to translate pages in this language'.

This is all the setup needed, so move on and start the IPDb App.

When the App starts, Edge detects that this App is in English, and displays a small translation window, offering to translate the page to Danish. If you click OK, it will display all content in the App in Danish.

This will happen every time you start IPDb unless you click/tap the 'More' button and choose 'Always translate English'. However, this will affect how other webpages may display in Edge when you do other browsing on the internet.

Notice the small Translation icon in the title bar; you can always revert to the translation window and change the settings using this icon. This icon also appears in your standard Edge browser for the same purpose and reason.

iOS/Safari

We are not currently aware of how to make Safari translate an installed app, but if somebody knows how, please get in touch with IPDb by creating a ticket or by writing to [email protected].

Windows/Chrome

If you are using Chrome to render IPDb, you must do the translation setup inside Chrome. Please open Chrome and go to Settings -> Languages from the 3-dot menu in the upper right corner of Chrome.

Alternatively, type in this URL in the address bar:

chrome://settings/languages

The window looks like this:

Now open IPDb, it will probably still display in English, but you can right-click/tap anywhere on the page and choose 'translate to Danish' from the pop-up menu.

Once you have done this, you will notice that IPDb is displayed in Danish, but a small Translation icon also appears in the title bar.

If you click/tap the icon, a small window will appear, and here you can control which language to use.

The small 3-dot menu will give you options to always translate to Danish, etc.

Windows/Firefox

Firefox does not currently support the installation of IPDb, so if you are using Firefox to run IPDb, please use the standard translation tool of the browser.
